While composing this update, the entirety of the UK was experiencing a heat wave with record-breaking temperatures. Instead of succumbing to the heat, we decided to write a scorching update for you all ![]()
A Noteworthy Collaboration
Introducing MetMo Singularity, a marvel of physics.
So what is it?
Experience the perfect intersection of spinning and rolling. Our new desk toy demonstrates the unique principle of ‘spolling’—a captivating display of mechanical engineering that challenges your understanding of motion.
Made using Newtonian glass that is ground and precision-polished to the finest detail, this provides the smoothest running surface for a disc anywhere outside of NASA.
Oh, and did we mention we also made a disc out of Tungsten?
We wondered what would happen if we used this heavy metal, and the result is one damn heavy spolling coin that runs like a charm! You get a solid disc of Tungsten with a weight that will take anyone by surprise
MetMo Singularity will be launching Wednesday 15th July.
Set your reminders, and get ready to spol!
News From the Shop Floor
Gear Trains, rolling out!
Here we are assembling the first of the Gear Trains! We’re really happy with them, and after some extra QC love they’ve turned out better than we anticipated.
We had to adopt a new finishing method with these (that we wouldn’t normally use!) known as vibratory polishing. We usually avoid it because it normally dents everything and leaves a finish that resembles 13th century battle armour. Not very MetMo.
But these have come out of that process looking nice and shiny, and we’ve also passivated the brass to keep it from tarnishing for a few years. This again is a process that, in the past, hasn’t looked great, but with the combination of the polishing and then passivating I think we’ve cracked it!
A word of warning to anyone that takes these apart, there are over 35 parts in the stack of gears that become very mobile when removed, but you do get to play Swiss watchmaker when putting it back together. Don’t go losing your washers!
A Red Dot Award!
We are proud to announce that our little brand up here in Yorkshire has been recognised by the mighty Red Dot design award! It’s quite a big honour to be up there with brands such as Apple, Ferrari, and Seiko!
For us as designers and engineers it’s been something we’ve strived towards for many years, so to be recognised has brought us a lot of joy this month!
Leather for Your Pocket Grip
We’ve been had at work this month getting everything ready for one of our latest releases, the Pocket Grip! We’re currently getting all the pouches into production and checking over the final pre-production samples before going hell for leather…
MetMo Whetstone
We have a whetstone! Half sized, for half sized blades. This is something that has been requested quite a few times, so we’ve been working away in the background and the result is this miniature sharpening block. Made just for us, this nifty size is ideal for the pocket and lets you bring engineering-level honing wherever you travel.
This is coming to the website soon so keep your eyes peeled!
The Grand Timeline
The last time we shared our timeline with you was back in April, so you’re definitely due an update! Here’s what’s coming soon in the MetMoVerse, with a whole lot to look at…
More from our MetMo Open Day
It’s been just over a month since our first Open House event and we’re still riding the high! We put a little video together of the afternoon to hopefully entice those of you who couldn’t make it to come to our next one! Stay tuned for announcement of that date.
