@Peg_MetMo Mine has 3 low profile and one normal screw — is that intentional? Or a consequence of kitting difficulties?
It works perfectly, and is gorgeous! Just a bit bumfuzzled by the oddity of the screw mis-match….
If it’s a big deal, you can toss a screw or three in w/ the Pocket Grip I managed to back on Kickstarter when it ships. EDIT: While not a big deal to me, it was sufficiently concerning to the folks at Metmo that they looked up my order and are sending me 4 matching screws — Thanks!
I do have one further question — would it be possible to add a (tungsten?) weight so that the base will stay in place? I’m probably going to make weighty steel base….
Hi Will, eek! That’s a minor error there! We’re getting you some new screws sent out tomorrow to resolve this for you which you’ve already kindly noted
.
The aluminium Vise does show it’s light weight when it comes to things like this. Stainless steel is usually the preferred one if you’re looking for more heft. However, the desktop workstation and adaptor plate do help to aid with this. If you remove the base on your Vise it’s quite easy to make a template to make your own steel base to bolt your vise down to if you fancy giving that a go.
Thanks!
Yeah, like most things, this is a tradeoff — maybe at some point in the future I’ll need a stainless vise, we’ll see.
For now, I’ve ordered a set of the vertical jaws, and will put it to work.
Received and it’s so far living up to its promise! Absolutely gorgeous. For those of us who have no space to keep the workstation out all the time, it would be great to have some sort of strap to hold everything in place when you pick it up, that metal plate would hurt if it landed on your foot….imagine a bespoke rubber band that had some weird white marks on it but when stretched across the workstation spelt out ‘Metmo’! Thank you Peg and the team, awesome engineering.
Thanks! The replacements bolts arrived today and of course installed perfectly — no photo since it’s a dreary day and I’ve been working on CNC stuff instead (layers!) — but will definitely take a photo when the vertical jaws arrive.
Hi,
I have the workstation and the extended SS fractal vice just putting together this morning.
I have attached the vice to the workstation but due to the close engineered tolerances the vice end jaw will not move/open unless I loosen the screws that attach the vice to the workstation.
Surely this cannot be correct?
