Figured this was in the works — really looking forward to it! (and am going to have to figure out how to clamp one to the front of my machine, or integrate with my portable workbench)
Actually, the thing this will most likely prompt me to do is to get out a small hand-cranked drill press I picked up ages ago, and craft a dedicated work-station for using it.
Hi Will,
Thank you! this one has been fun to make so-far, it doesn’t show it on here but there are some fixing screws on the bottom that lets you attach it to things so you can make a custom bracket to attach it to, and we have also made a plate it can attach to that makes connecting it to thins a bit more universal too.
Sounds like you have a good setup, I really want to have a go at making of those hand cranked drill presses.
As I’ve noted in the past, I’d love to see an eggbeater drill from your company — finally managed to snag a Millers-Falls No. 2 and use a Lee Valley replica:
https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/hand-tools/drills/110669-lee-valley-replica-egg-beater-drill?item=15N1001
(and one which could be toggled from hand-held to mounted usage would be brilliant)
but what I really want of course is the Bridge City Tool Works drill:
(or a Millenium Brace, though my PB-2 is quite nice, just a bit cold and austere)
A I noted in another thread here, I think it would be very interesting to bring back the bow drill, or a better engineered Archimedes drill (with better collets) — there have been a number of small USB-C charged/battery-powered devices — perhaps it’s time for a power tool? (after all, “boring” (the hand-tool operation) is a synonym for “boring” (as in tedious process).
That said, I think a very interesting thing to look at would be layout tools — the Bridge City Tool Works SS-2 was a brilliant little thing which is rare as hen’s teeth since the folks who actually use them never give them up (and the current multi-tools from them are so busy they hurt my brain just looking at them). There was a layout/measureing tool/slide rule on Kickstarter recently which I almost backed, but which didn’t quite feel right in terms of engineering/design/aesthetics — I think your company could nail something along those lines.
Superbly satisfying to look it get the brain going I can’t wait to get my hands around it
Interestingly, the Blue Spruce Toolworks folks are revisiting the Saddle Square:

Thats interesting stuff, thank you! thats a handy tool I could actually do with right now. We do have some sliding/folding rules on the ideas board right now too! It’s an exciting time for new ideas for us!
