Hey guys.
Since getting my Grip off the Indiegogo campaign, it’s always had a bit of play in the closed position. I assumed this was normal, but the more I see other people’s videos using it, the more I feel like maybe that play shouldn’t be there. If I open the Grip to 5mm, I can then wiggle it back and forth between the 5mm and 7mm marks. Is this normal? If not, is it something I can fix by tightening/loosening something?
Cheers.
Hi! Do you mind posting a video for us to have a look? Or if it’s easier for you you can email it to us at hello@metmocube.com
There might be a fix but we’ll have to take a look
Thanks. Here you go. I can’t tell if there’s a missing washer, or if some part’s made wrong, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be like this!

Hey,
Yes that’s definitely waaay too much play in the mechanism. We designed it to have a little bit of play to allow the shaft to spin freely, then we use shim washers on eother side of the shaft to fine tune it and it looks like yours may be missing those shim washers. It’s usually a pretty easy fix, but yours looks like it has around 2mm play which is quite significant!
First thing you can do is take out the two screws that hold everything together and remove the top jaw. There should be two washers sat inside the holes that are either side of the shaft hole on the top jaw. Remove these and then pop your jaw back on and tighten everything up.
This will drop the top jaw down slightly and tighten up a bit of that wiggle room. Please let me know how you get on with this and we can definitley help further is this quick fix doesn’t work for you.
Cheers,
Sean
Thanks, there were 4. Removing those made an improvement. I then played around and moved a couple to the bottom of the spinning shaft. Feeling much tighter now. Anything I need to be aware of? Can I cause any permanent damage moving things around?
Hey,
That’s great! No chance of damage
those shim washers are designed to move around so we can fine tune each Grip. Sorry again that yours wasn’t set up correctly to begin with and I’ve passed this on to production to be aware of. Please let me know if you have any more issues.
Thanks,
Sean
This is mine, does mine have too much slop?
