A few months ago we received some images from someone who has an original Weltrekord, and he let us know we could share the pictures here on CubeClub for you guys!
This is the message we received from Matt, and you can check out the photos of his original Weltrekord!
"I saw your screwdriver advertised and recognised the mechanism. I have an original that I use to build bicycle wheels. It was found in a box of rusty tools seized solid. I had no idea it had such history. My dad got it moving again and we machined an adaptor for it to take modern bits, it is brilliant. I know what to get when it wears out as it has had a lot of use."
"It uses a D shaped internal driver that parts are unobtainable for so my dad modified an old screwdriver bit. The bit in it is for driving bicycle wheel spoke nipples. It's perfect for this job. I was going to varnish it but I chose to let it wear it's history. Anyone who comes to my garage can't resist picking it up and playing with it."
"Credit goes to my Dad Philip Lund for painstakingly restoring it. He retired from Pegler in Leeds when the Hunslet site closed and he was happy to have some project. It was bad when we got it. It was in a box of rusty junk from my cousin's farm along with a 1917 bayonet. (We didn't get to keep that one sadly) and a hand cranked grinding wheel."
The history of old tools will never not be interesting to us, so getting to share in this slice of history from Matt and Philip was an absolute treat.
