We recently had one of our original Kickstarter Cube backers get in touch as their limited edition titanium Cube had become damaged and removed from its baseplate. We know the Cubes are a long-term investment, so we arranged with Steve to get it back so we could get it fixed and polished.
It got us thinking about how not everyone will know about the titanium Cube, as it was a super limited run in our original Kickstarter campaign.
Originally created as a stretch goal in the first ever MetMo campaign for the Cube, the titanium version was limited to only 65 pieces. This made them super rare. We wanted to try out a titanium version in part because our manufacturer at the time was able to work with this, and to see the kinds of boundaries we could push with the Cube! Titanium is 45% lighter than steel whilst also being just as strong, which made for a slightly more delicate Cube. It also has the highest strength to weight ratio of all known metals, so being able to make this was pretty special!
This is Steve's Cube after we'd fixed the base, but before we got things polished up.
And he's sent over this stunner now it's back in its rightful home! For a four year old Cube we think it’s looking pretty great!
